Jay Schneiderman
ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER
Jay Schneiderman has over two decades of dedicated East End leadership and a background in science education. A Long Island native, Jay holds a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Ithaca College and a Master’s degree in education from SUNY Cortland, which launched his early career teaching science and mathematics in local schools. His extensive record of public service includes serving as East Hampton Town Supervisor (2000–2004), a Suffolk County Legislator (2004–2015), and most recently, completing eight years as Southampton Town Supervisor (2016–2023). Throughout his career, he has been a strong proponent of environmental causes--he led the fight to preserve over 1,000 acres of East Hampton’s open space and worked closely with fellow board members to draft long-range plans for affordable housing and drinking water protection. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Mecox Bay Conservancy, which he helped establish in 2023. Beyond his career as a public servant, Jay has a lifelong passion for music: he’s a songwriter and drummer who has played with numerous East End bands. Jay has been a champion of Hamptons Observatory since its inception. He brings to the Advisory Board not only his expertise in regional public policy and community advocacy, but also his experience in and support of STEM education, which perfectly aligns with the mission of Hamptons Observatory.
